Single? Dating? Engaged? Married? It doesn’t really matter what your relationship status is this Valentine’s Day. Jesus is writing your love story.

Jesus’ Love > Human Insecurity

I remember being a single girl in high school and college and being told that it was a time to focus on my relationship with God. It was a time for freedom and clarity to focus in on the girl God created me to be. I wish I had had even more time to develop unwavering and steadfast assuredness in my identity in Christ. What an invaluable time to invest in your life. When we have secured the knowledge of Christ’s love in our hearts, our standards for human relationships will be in check. Not searching for perfection, but for another heart, equally softened towards God’s will.

No matter where you are in your relationship building journey, God’s everlasting love outweighs any human’s love for us. He keeps his promises. He shares our pain. He provides. And His loving mercy and faithfulness is new every morning. I love to read His promises, love letters, and words from the Bible that give hope, peace, and patience in every stage of life.

In relationships, and all parts of life, we are always searching for the next stage. If you are single, you wish for a mate. If you are dating, you wish for things to progress quickly. Long term dating? Where’s the ring? Married? Babies. When we put God’s plan for us at the forefront of our minds, when we replace the longing with the love letters that God has already written to us and the goodness He has proven time and again, we can be free in the exact spot He has us in. No more searching. No more wishing. He will provide in every corner of your life.

Here are the truths of love that the Bible has for us this Valentine’s Day.

Love Notes from Jesus

You, Lord, are forgiving and good, abounding in love to all who call to you. Psalm 86:5

But you, O Lord, are a God merciful and gracious, slow to anger and abounding in steadfast love and faithfulness. Psalm 86:15

Give thanks to the God of heaven, for his steadfast love endures forever. Psalm 136:26

The LORD your God is in your midst, a mighty one who will save; he will rejoice over you with gladness; he will quiet you by his love; he will exalt over you with loud singing. Zephaniah 3:17

For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. John 3:16

Your love, O Lord, reaches to the heavens, your faithfulness to the skies.  Your righteousness is like the mighty mountains, your justice like the great deep.  Psalm 36:5-6

How great is the love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God! 1 John 3:1

This is how God showed his love among us:  He sent his one and only Son into the world that we might live through him.  This is love:  not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins.  Dear friends, since God so loved us, we also ought to love one another. 1 John 4:9-11

In all these things, we are more than conquerors through him who loved us. For I am convinced that neither death or life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord. Romans 8:37-39

Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. Love never fails. 1 Corinthians 13:4-7

Because your love is better than life, my lips will glorify you. Psalm 63:3
