Ya gotta love when your mom looks out for your photo opp needs! On the way to the beach this past weekend, we couldn’t help but pull over to run through this beautiful sunflower field; a location my mom had spotted the week before. Just had to ‘smile and wave’ at the beach traffic crawling next to us… There’s an ideal time for sunflower fields before they turn a little sad looking and I think we caught it!

My family has owned a house in Cape May, New Jersey for the last 10 years, which is a very farm and vineyard-filled beach town. Plenty of beautiful settings for wine tastings, fresh produce purchases, and fields of lovely flowers. Our family loves the Victorian-style bed & breakfasts sprinkled around town, riding our beach cruisers anywhere and everywhere, and enjoying long days in the sand and sun. So many people have asked for Cape May tips so I will be doing a full travel guide very soon!

They Say White Dresses Are In

Since sunflower fields and off-the-shoulder dresses are having a moment, what a perfect pairing! The scarf, although deceivingly Madewell-esque, was cut from an old scarf I owned when I realized neck scarves were going to be very in. I couldn’t wait for my order to arrive so I just diy-ed it. Turns out, I love this scarf more than the ones I actually ordered. The little stripey straps sticking out of my dress are from an adorable new bathing suit I just got in. Since I was heading to the beach, I was using this dress as an easy swim cover-up. I’m saving a full picture of the suit for my trip to Tulum, Mexico next week! The Steve Madden sandals I am wearing are THE best summer sandals. They are so versatile and comfy. I wear them to work, the beach, running errands, etc. The same ones are still available in black and brown. Shop this look at the links below!

The Flowers of the Field

When I was younger, I truly struggled with anxiety and worry and I still do from time to time. It would take me hours to fall asleep at night thinking about all that I had to get done or of the things that were “expected” of me. My mom would sit on my bed, pray with me, and read me a passage from Matthew 6 in the Bible that has become my favorite.

“Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothes?…Can any one of you by worrying add a single hour to your life? And why do you worry about clothes? See how the flowers of the field grow. They do not labor or spin. Yet I tell you that not even Solomon in all his splendor was dressed like one of these. If that is how God clothes the grass of the field, which is here today and tomorrow is thrown into the fire, will he not much more clothe you—you of little faith?… But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.”

How beautiful to see how the “flowers of the field grow” without a care, not knowing that in a few weeks, this won’t be the same pretty yellow field. This may be dismal for them, but it’s promising for us. While their plan is to bloom each year looking towards the sun (how cool), God’s plan for us is unimaginable and spectacular. Even more comforting to know that the Creator of these sunflowers, desires for us to be renewed each day in Him; not looking towards the worries of the coming tomorrows, but looking towards the Son. I hope you are reminded of His love and provision for you as we go into this summer weekend!

jojo
